    Excellent manual for the clinician

This is the civilian version of their manual for the VA clinicians to use with their clients who suffer from PTSD. This is a manual for clinicians use. This book has all of the clinical trial references and documentation in the first couple chapters and it is impressive. As a psychotherapist I have begun to use this manual with my clients and am experiencing good results so far. I am looking forward to using all of the resources in this manual with all of my clients who suffer from PTSD. I can also see how CPT would be useful for Acute Stress Disorder as well. Maybe even depression.

It is a good manual. It would be nice if the assignments and sheets to be handed to patients were on an actual website so I wouldn’t have to copy it from the book. There is a website for training that has some of the handouts but not a lot and it’s focused on a different type of CPT.

    Great updates!

As a therapist who has been using CPT prior to this update, I’m thrilled to see some of these revisions and new handouts on stuck points, the star model of trust, responsibility versus blame, etc. it’s a great investment for therapists and this treatment has been a game-changer for my clients. Definitely recommend.

there are some good approaches in this book with handouts

there are some good approaches in this book with handouts, which is handy. however, i found the organization of the book to be choppy. for example, ch5 has a hand out for stuck points. you have to go to the end of ch 6 to learn about stuck points. furthermore, I am not convinced that cognitive approaches are the only/ best approaches for PTSD. i have had to combine it with mindfulness practices and other body centered and emotional focused techniques for best results.

An outstanding book and training by Dr. Chard

I bought this book, not knowing it would come with my very expensive training that I took with Dr. Chard. Keep that in my fellow trainee’s. The book is very important if you take the training, especially for the first session dialogue. I have mine all marked up and the pages are clipped with flags. Dr. Chard is an excellent speaker. In Ohio, be forewarned. If you take it through a psychological association you won’t get the CEU’s if you are a Master’s Level. This is due to the politics in this state. I tried to fight it but the psych association refused to return calls or emails and that was several months ago.

The latest update for a great therapy for PTSD.

I love using CPT for PTSD. This manual is, of course, for properly trained clinicians, not a lay person. The elimination of the written account in this, newer, version makes it even better. I have seen dramatic results in symptom reduction in my clients.

    Easy to follow, excellent manual

This is a great book for learning CPT. I’m already well versed in CBT, which is similar, so it was easy to follow along and learn CPT. Many of the tools have works really well for my patients, I would highly recommend this as a great supplement for any other CPT course you are taking.

Best session by session guide for clinicians

This manual breaks down CPT session by session and comes with handouts easily shared with clients. I used it for virtual sessions and loved the electronic version of handouts that I could share screen with clients. Perfect step by step guide for clinicians!

Love this book and this theory

Both this book and this theory really speak so well to the needs of my client. Without the blame through incidental verbiage that can be present in some theory, CPT allows processing as well as progress.

A great alternative to other PTSD models

The only book you need for this protocol, manualised- so it explains every step of the way. CPT offers an explanatory model which is user friendly for both patients and therapists alike. Handouts are great and the web link to a PDF version is a bonus.

    CPT Works

I am using this book for a class. I have found it very detailed for the clinician. I do wonder when we will dispense with paper and pencil and utilize an app for this therapy. It would seem important for PTSD, especially males?

    Excellent skills

As a therapist, this has been an immensely helpful tool for treatment of ptsd. It teaches people they do not have to have ptsd forever, it is treatable. I highly recommend finding a therapist rostered through the CPT site for treatment.

    comprehensive and evidence based

A thorough guide though very repetitive and wordy. I would have preferred a condensed version with fewer confusing references to a multitude of handouts. Overall well documented and supported regardless. An appendum with the -SA add-one would have been ideal.

    Great Workbook

This workbook was recommended to me by a coworker who swears by it. I haven’t really had a chance to go through it as much as I’d like, but I do know that it appears to be a good one. I plan on using it with my residents/clients.

I don't know if a new edition was needed

having bought and read the new one. I’m not sure there was enough updated to warrant needing the new edition. It’s a great book but really my first edition has almost everything. I suppose it’s worth it to have the larger handouts. Though the handouts are available online or in the smartphone app. I do like CPT a lot though. It’s worth buying if you don’t have the first edition already.
